Perry High School Robotics Program
Perry High School in Lake County offers a tremendous opportunity through its VEX Robotics program; the program develops students’ interpersonal-based skills, problematic skills inquiry, and time management skills. Students are given the opportunity to apply their creativity to engineering. Perry High School is the home of five individual robotics teams. Students commit time year-round to designing a robot that represents Perry while performing at a state and world level.
Perry High School has been participating in VEX Robotics for six years. The VEX competitions are sponsored by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation which exist to connect teams from a variety of different communities. Each year an engineering challenge is presented in the form of a game. Students aim to build the most innovative robots possible and work together to obtain the most points possible during each match. Although the competitions are spirited and challenging, students grow in friendships and display the discipline-driven skills needed to be successful. During these six years, the PHS robotics program has amassed over fifty awards, ranging from tournament champions, skills champions, design awards, excellence awards and even state champions. Perry is known throughout the robotics community as having an outstanding program due to our complete commitment and competitive attitude.
Perry Robotics is a student-run program; many other districts utilize professional engineers from outside the school. Because we are student-run, funding can often be a challenge: our 2018 world competition will cost nearly $1,000 per team for registration alone. Perry Local Schools has shown liberality towards the robotics program throughout the whole year. Due to the bountiful amounts already spent, VEX Worlds can not be covered. As a program, we are very grateful for the financial support we have received. We are relying on the generosity of the Perry community to achieve our goal to afford worlds. Our teams are hoping to represent the entire Perry community, but we will need your help. We are asking that you please consider donating to help support Perry Robotics attend the VEX Robotics World Championship in Kentucky. We thank you for your time and your financial generosity.
